BIOS Update for lenovo laptop

BIOS Update for lenovo laptop

My painful experience detailed a bit further to hopefully help others

Summary of problem:
Not able to update BIOS using Lenovo BIOS Update Utility for Windows in Windows 10.  I have an older laptop e420 and new Lenovo BIOS update Utility for Windows 10 is not compatible.  With tool I get a blue screen warning.  Laptop reboots and BIOS is not updated.  Lenovo bios ISO file is in El Torito format which most Windows Apps cannot extract and Rufus tool cannot create a bootable USB from this ISO due to this format.

General idea is to create a bootable USB with your BIOS update files on this USB stick.

1) Download and install ISO Buster
https://www.isobuster.com/install.php
2) Download and install PowerIso
https://www.poweriso.com/download.php
3) Download you ISO file which is typically created in LINUX El Torito format.  For me I went here https://support.lenovo.com/do/en/downloads/ds014969 and downloaded 8huj17us.iso  (You will need to search for your specific Lenovo BIOS files but process should be similar to steps below)
4) Use IsoBuster to open 8huj17us.iso file.  Look under Bootable Disc folder you should see a file with extenstion .img for me the file was named NERO BURNING ROM.img
5) Extract the .img file to your desktop and rename it to BIOS.img to make it more obvious
6) Find your BIOS file that you want to flash to.  For me I used a modded BIOS file to remove the white list.  You may however simply be trying to update your BIOS from Lenovo BIOS file on Lenovo site.  For me my original BIOS is here: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc...uj03us.exe which I downloaded for back up purposes incase the modded BIOS had issues (highly recommended if you are flashing a modded BIOS).  My modded BIOS was here: https://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/index.php...miloml.exe.  These both work for BIOS ID = 8HET34WW.  Again you would need to find the BIOS version from Lenovo that works for your Lenovo laptop.
7) Open BIOS.img with PowerISO tool.  PowerISO lets you add files to the .IMG file.
8) Extract your Lenovo BIOS file (and Modded BIOS file if you have it), typically they get extracted to: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH
9) Using Windows Explorer and since my BIOS ID is I then find the 8HET34WW folder under C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\8huj04us and C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\8huj03us folders, the former be my modded BIOS and the later being the Lenovo original backup BIOS.  I drag and drop each of these 8HET34WW folders to the FLASH folder in PowerISO.  If you have a modded BIOS as you drop each folder rename it right after (e.g. for me when I dropped my modded folder 8HET34WW I renamed it to 04_8HET34WW, then when dropped the original BIOS folder with the same name 8HET34WW I renamed it to 03_8HET34WW.  After each dropped I have to click SAVE in PowerISO otherwise it would crash some times.
10) Now extract .IMG file to a windows Temp Folder
11) Download Rufus https://rufus.ie/downloads/.  This tool will allow us to create a bootable USB called FreeDOS
12) Insert a spare USB Key 1G is best but can go higher if that is all you have.  Use RUFUS to create FreeDOS bootable USB.
13) When done open USB in Windows Explorer and navigate to Drivers folder
14) Create a folder called FLASH
15) Inside of FLASH folder copy all the files you extracted in step 10.  For me my 03_8HET34WW is now located at \Drivers\FLASH\03_8HET34WW
16) Your bootable USB is now ready, reboot and for me my BIOS is already set to check for USB key on boot and load it.  I think hitting F12 on startup will also do this for most people, if not google is your friend.
17) Now time to flash bios, execute the following from the FLASH folder:

PFLASH /sv /sd ./[BIOS_FILE_FOLDER]/[BIOS_FILE]

note for me this was the command:

PFLASH /sv /sd ./04_8HET34WW/$0A8H000.FL1

Heard some beeps and once DOS progressbar hit 100% was all done.

Hopefully some or all of this is useful to others.

Lenovo m83 bios hack uploading the nvme driver for bios

Such a problem:
I modified the Lenovo m83 bios computer, i.e. I added nvme support.
And now I tried to upload it, which unfortunately did not work
an error appears:
18 - error secure flash rom verify fail
I probably assume rightly that the shrinkers from Lenovo introduced a checksum that prevents the upload of "modded" bios
Has anyone tried to work around this?
Of course, in the version for real tough guys, it could be desoldered, programmed and soldered Smile although it is not very "elegant".
Unfortunately, none of the "methods" found on the Internet have worked so far, and probably saving it with a "special" checksum is impossible because I do not think that Lenovo will reveal such secrets.

Any suggestions for a solution are welcome.

Intel T7600 64bit CPU on HP Compaq nx9420 laptop

Hi,

I’m in the process of refreshing my old HP Compaq nx9420 laptop. After successfully upgrading the SSD HDD and memory, I’ve tried to replace the original Intel Core Duo T2600 (32bit) with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 (64bit), but without success (I had 2 CPUs to try)- the computer simply doesn’t even boot up. According to specification, it should be capable of running the new CPU with the latest BIOS, even since version F.1A.

Would there be anyone willing to confirm this and/or modify the latest BIOS to support the new CPU, perhaps unlocking also further (desktop-like) functionality in the process?

I’m not sure who’s the original BIOS manufacturer as this information is not visible anywhere. The only information I have is that it’s HP branded 68YAF Family ROM, latest version F.1D from July 11, 2008, Computrace OPTION ROM version 866. The motherboard is using Intel i945PM rev 03 chipset.

Thanks.

Hi at all,

i got a W540 with a broken BIOS, after pressing the button, one beep and nothing further happend!
I tried to repair the BIOS according to this video : https://youtu.be/IqHAFk_Oy9Q
After flashing the both files into the Eproms, the W540 startet again, but the following messages appeared on the screen:
0271: Real Time Clock Error - check Date and Time settings
0183: Bad CRC of Security Settings in EFI variable

The first message I think would be not the problem, but the second !?!

The next problem: I can not access to the BIOS because of an unknown password !

Can anyone help me with this problem  - the unrepaird bios filse are here:

Could anyone provide me with the BIOS recovery filename for Lenovo Legion Y530? I'm not able to flash the BIOS (version 8JCN52WW.)  because I guess the laptop is not able to recognise any of the BIOS file formats I throw at it. Andy's Tool also doesn't give the name of the file.  Also it'd be so nice of you could describe the process of getting the name ,so that I could get some knowledge Shy. if someone wants to know why I want to flash the darn BIOS, here you go:
Please help me as early as you could guys as this is for my work laptop. A big thanks in advance ladies and gentlemen!! The BIOS.fd file is in the .rar attachment.

UEFI freezes when trying to update BIOS

I am trying to update my BIOS on my ROG Crosshair VI so I can install a new processor on it.  However when I go to "read the update, in the tool tab in the BIOS, the UEFI screen freezes up and locks up.  I have been trying to find a similar issue with someone else through my searches and I am getting nowhere.  Has anyone experience this issue? I have disconnected all the peripherals, components, reseated the processor, and removed the battery from the board. I have tried updating it through the available internet link in the UEFI, and through a USB stick, to no avail.

Swift SF314-41. Problem with new bios 1.07

Good morning. I have a Swift SF314-41 notebook with AMD Ryzen 35000U. For the sake of completeness, I would like to point out that I added a second HD SSD in 2.5 format where I installed ubuntu and changed a bank of 4 gb of ram with a 16 gb one and now I have a total of 20 gb of ram (17 of which are usable).
Windows downloaded the BIOS update to version 1.07 a few weeks ago.
Since then the problems began, which manifest themselves only with windows, not with ubuntu.
In particular, with the PC not connected to the current, these problems occur randomly:
- BSOD (rare)
- WIFI network failure (frequent).
Everything is fine with the PC connected to the mains.
With Ubuntu everything is ok.
I downgraded the bios to version 1.04 and the problems are gone, but windows alone updates the bios to version 1.07 immediately.

Have others had such problems?
How to solve?
Could Acer fix the BIOS bug?
I tried to write to technical support and they told me to send the computer in for service. But why should I if it's a BIOS problem?
Thanks to those who want to help me.

Hi! I'm an advanced computer user, but new to flashing ROMs [I haven't done so since 1991!] - Anyways, I have an HP Pavilion 6606 with an MSI-7613 v1.1 Motherboard. The socket is 1156, chipset H57 and the AMI Bios is v6.12 2010-07-12. As it is now, an M.2 SSD placed into an adapter and into the PCIe x16 slot is not showing up as a drive in BIOS and that means I'm also unable to make it boot from there. I'm not sure if I'm looking for a mod, an unlock, or what|H

BIOS was bricked when modifying tertiary values on RAM. I can give specifics if required.

.fd flashing from USB did not work after dozens of different approaches.

I read a bunch of threads while waiting for my SPI programmer to arrive and have made many of the necessary preparations so hopefully i don't waste the time of experienced members.

3 seperate BIOS dumps attached. Please verify if they are correct. http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...5374352730

dumps taken from winbond chip (this seems like what is usually required) with AsProgrammmer but two other similar shape chips are present on my mobo.

correct manufacturer BIOS update can be found at https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles...ER&SC=PA_6

I do not require unlocking of Advanced Tab, i already found the boot keycode to reveal it.

Thank you for your time.
