[REQUEST] HP Envy x360 15-bp194cl

HP Envy x360 15-bp194cl (i7-8550u, mx150-0)
Bios Revision : Insyde F.46, 12/2/2019 (latest as of 4/29/20)
F.46 Bios Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100501-101000/sp100953.exe, ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp100501-101000/sp100953.exe

My request is a bit different. Using the HP BIOS update file, extracting the INSYDE flash tool, then having it export the BIOS file, I opened up 083C8.bin using UEFITool NE (version alpha 44) and did a search for "Hidden", which yielded 7 results, all coming from the same source,

Intel image > BIOS region > 1FD0BACE-6F0A-4085-901E-F6210385CB6F > 20BC8AC9-94D1-4208-AB28-5D673FD73486 > LzmaCustomDecompressGuid > Volume image section > EfiFirmwareFileSystem2Guid > DriverSampleDxe > PE32 image section

from there, I extracted it "as-is", to a bin file which I opened using Universal IFR Extractor v0.5. It detected the UEFI Protocol, and I extracted the IFR, opening the text file revealed a tree-like list of options and their possible variable "options", which I found many entries matching both options currently visible in my BIOS, and some not. I am aware how to boot a UEFI Shell to use the setup_var to enable the Advanced page, but I'm just not sure what variable to change. I unfortunately cannot provide a BIOS dump, because the tool I've tried all say unsupported BIOS configuration, or something along the lines of that.

I am using some of the resources from this (http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/tutorial-xps-15-9550-9550-bios-advanced-options.810307/) guide, but I'm stuck. I didn't have much luck trying to change any variables as setup_var couldn't do anything but most of the time setup_var2 returned offset out of range, which makes me believe that either i'ts simply not there, or it's locked in some way. I tried changing two variables, numlock on boot (cannot verify), and trying to up the PL4 limit (which removed Windows being able to set performance modes interesting)

My end goal is to be access the hidden "Advanced" page, and be able to tweak a few more things of my laptop. My laptop is still under warranty so does BIOS flashing it void the warranty? I know how to do BIOS recovery I've just never tried it on my system, and I'm curious that if I have to send in my laptop for repairs for whatever reason, and I perform a BIOS recovery, will they (the warranty repair facility) know that I've modded it?

The included zip file has the UEFITool NE tool, the IFR Extractor, the export of the PE32 image section as a bin, the IFR from the bin, and the two original BIOS bin files (I used 083C8.bin). If you don't trust (hey that's fine gotta look out for more than one type of virus Big Grin), you can also grab them from the notebookreview link I put.

I would like help or advice unlocking any hidden menus in the Acer Aspire A315-22 Bios posted here:

A315-22 Bios

I'm having difficulty getting any spec of DDR4 working in the slot (Tried 8Gb 2133, 2133p and 2666) which should clock down to 1866 to match the soldered on RAM. I would like to clock the onboard RAM to 2133 if possible or make sure a dimm will clock down to 1866.

I also have an nvme drive in the m.2 slot which is only working in sata mode right now. I've seen hidden key combos in similar Bios to switch sata modes and was hoping there could be a Bios locked pcie mode?

The board has a lot of unpopulated areas and traces and I was hoping that translated to the board being generic with hidden functionality?

[HELP] BIOS Mods Lenovo M93p Unable to Dump BIOS Image

$

Hello all,

I want to seek help regarding Lenovo Thinkcentre M930 Tiny Desktop. I would like to remove whitelist for WiFi card, but before I am able to do that, I have problem in downloading the BIOS image. Here is what I have been doing without any positive result.
1. I have CH341a programmer with SOIC clip, both the green and black board.
2. Based on my study on the following page (https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments...ice_in_my/), I understand M93p has two BIOS chip, which I can confirm is the case on my machine. My M93p is using MX25L6473E and MX25L3273E.
3. I first tried to dump BIOS using CH341a black board with standard CH31a programmer software, but I never able to get two consistent BIOS dump (two subsequent BIOS read result in non-identical BIOS image). The CH341a programmer seems not able to auto detect the chip, especially the MX25L3273E chip. The 6473E chip can be auto detected, but the result is never identical.
4. Having read the page on #2, I concatenate both BIOS image and start do a deviceID_vendorID search, but can never find any matching IDs. For example, searching 8680b108 for Intel WiFi card results nothing using UEFITool.
5. As a comparison, I once use the CH341a and the programmer software to dump BIOS of my Thinkpad T440 and it works. Submitting the BIOS dump in this forum for WiFi whitelist request was successful and I can use other WiFi card in the T440.
5. Reading further into this forum, the recommendation is to use Flashrom to dump the BIOS, and I install flahsrom in my macOS Mojave.
6. Trying to use the CH341a green board using Flashrom on my old unused Z68 motherboard with dual BIOS using MX25L3206E, and reading both BIOS chip twice runs smoothly. I have not check whether both read are identical, but everything runs smoothly, no error from Flashrom.
7. Then I try to read the BIOS on M93p using the green CH341a, but the result is "Couldn't open device 1a85:5512. Error: Programmer Initialization failed". However, when I remove the SOIC clip from the BIOS chip and run flashrom, programmer successfully initialized but Flashrom detect no chip, which I assume the CH341a and flashrom works.
8. I tried using CH341a black board, and seems like the programmer is detected by flashrom, but it cannot auto detect the BIOS chip. I tried to reattach the clip, but result still same. After multiple time of reattaching, it is then automatically detecting when reading the MX25L6473E. However, when reading, it starts with "Block protection could not be disabled" but then it reads the BIOS until finish. However, when I tried to do reading the 2nd time, flashrom cannot auto detect the 6473E chip.
9. I tried with the next chip, 3273E, but generally the result more less the same. Even if it is successfully auto read the chip, it does not read correctly read the chip i.e. showing as MX25L6406E/MX25L6408E of 8192kB, in another instance showint as MX25L6405D of 8192kB while actually the chip is MX25L3273E of 4096kB that is available and supported with PREW function on the flashrom list.

As much as I want to progress and expand my knowledge and learning on BIOS modification, I will not be able to do the learning before I am successfully dump the BIOS. Thus I really need some help.

I already bought the WiFi card for this machine, therefore I really want to install it on this machine.

Thank you in advance for looking at my case and give some advise/guidance.

Help with applying me_cleaner to Insyde BIOS

$

Notebook: HP Pavilion 15-p250nq (i3-5010U CPU)
BIOS: Insyde F.57 Rev.A (sp92961) link

I wish to neutralize the Intel Management Engine component using me_cleaner. My options seem to be external flashing using the proper tools or internal flashing using the software flashing tools provided by the hardware vendor for regular bios updates.
In my case I choose the second option as I don't possess external tools and the InsydeFlash tool provided by HP provides a USB drive recovery option in case something goes wrong.
Unfortunately, I have some troubles following the necessary steps. me_cleaner expects the bios image to be a single .bin or .rom file, however after using the InsydeFlash executable (that is also called  "HP System BIOS Update Utility") and selecting the "Copy BIOS image to any file location (Advanced users)" option I am provided with not one, but multiple files as shown in this image which makes the process confusing. (I also tried using the "Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0" in hopes of obtaining a single bios file, but encountered a "Can not identify the BIOS" error.)
Also, even if I figure out which one of those files I need to apply me_cleaner to, I still need to somehow use the InsydeFlash utility to flash the modified bios. That is confusing as well judging by the structural differences of the files from the Insyde folder and the presence of certain .ini files as shown in this image.
Then there is also the process of applying the me_cleaner script itself, as instructions are provided only for terminal use in a GNU/Linux OS but they seem simple enough so I don't expect to have troubles with that.

I would be very grateful if a more knowledgeable person than me could help clarify this process. Thanks for reading.

[Request] Lenovo ThinkPad L490 WWAN/WLAN Whitelist Removal

Hello everyone!  Smile
I am very new in bios modding and recently acquired a very cheap brand new ThinkPad, I recently tried to install a WWAN card (Sierra Wireless AirPrime EM7355) and got the infamous 1802 error that prevent the laptop to boot, the whitelist is looked up by the bios even while the pc is running (yeah I tried to hot plug the card and it worked fine for a minute until it got blocked again by the bios) I really want to try to mod the bios by myself because I think it would be very educative for me, but there's only few guides / tutorials on internet working for me, what I did is extracting the binary file from the bios chip, and open it with UEFITool and there's my issue, when I search in UEFITool  for ''Unauthorized network card is plugged in" I get 3 or 4 results and end up with 3 or 4 PE32 files, and it is getting me really confused, which on should I mod ? all of them? also i opened them with IDA Pro and i do find the error message but i struggle to understand what's going on in there because it is really different from the tutorials / guides.

Can anyone here take a look at the binary file of the bios in attachment and help me better understand what's going on in there? it would be very very apreciated ! Heart Big Grin

Bricked Dell Precision M3800 after failed BIOS Update

Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I tried to update one of our M3800's to A13 and Windows hung at 21% of whatever the second stage is (finished the blocks and moved on to the bar) laptop is now effectively dead. I've trying resetting the EC and pulling the main and CMOS batteries to no avail.

Having found thisthis and this I've been able to get it to boot from USB using ZAU50A13.hdr but after it writes the new boot block, the new data block, the new main block and the new nvram block the screen goes black, fans go off but it doesn't reboot (power light still flashes) and it's still dead - From the linked posts I suspect this is because I need the original ROM version I was upgrading _from_ which is where I hit a snag.

I'm 99% sure it was A02 which I have been unable to find on the web, I've found 00, 03, 05, 07, 09 & 10 but none of these will even get to the Aptio recovery.

Does anyone have M3800-A02.exe or have any suggestions on what to try next or shall I resign myself to having to buy a new BIOS chip for it?
