Acer Aspire V5-472 Bios, .fd file to .bin?

Hi all,

I'm sorry in advance if I'm in the wrong sub-forum (i suspect I am, although there didn't appear to be an appropriate subforum for my question). Apologies again if my question has been answered already. I have an Acer Aspire V5-472 that I suspect has a corrupted bios. There may be more wrong with it, I rescued it from the garbage bin! I have ordered a CH341a programmer to reprogram the bios, and I have the .fd file from Acer.

My question is, how can flash the .fd with the CH341a? Is there a conversion that needs to occur to make a binary file from the .fd? is the .fd encrypted in some way?

Any help or guides to read would be welcome,
Ivan

Sony VAIO VPCEA23EL: RAM Problem

Hellow friends; I have a problem with my laptop, is not a very new one. I tried to upgrade the ram modules and bought two 4GB Kingston Rams; the model of the rams is KVR13S9S8/4 both are the same PC3-10600 DDR3-1333MHz non-ECC Unbuffered CL9 204-Pin SoDimm Single Rank, x8 Memory Module but when I installed them; my laptop started to reboot constantly, i investigated that my mainboard does support DDR3-1333MHz frequency and 1.5V supply and my processor works with 1066Mhz (but the thing that is importat is the mainboard compatiblility I  think), however I came to the conclution that something in my BIOS is not well configured, but my BIOS is locked. See; my laptop is a Sony VAIO VPCEA23EL, my processor is an Intel Pentium P6000, my BIOS is an AMI BIOS version 08.00.10 and the last rom for it, is R0300Y8 EC Version K0300Y8.

Please help me to modify my BIOS rom for to make that the rams worked in my laptop, I attach the last rom of my BIOS. Thanks!

Biostar G31-M4 TDP and FSB option unlock

Hello members of bios-mods,

Normally i know my way through AMIBCP and MMTOOL and i can do all the basic bios modding stuff mostly by myself, but this board is just one step too far for me.

The board is a Biostar G31-M4, which is a brilliant little board for overclocking on socket 478 since it combines the G31 chipset with DDR2 which makes life a lot easier on high fsb overclocking on the 478 platform. And normally i just do some hardmods and microcode magic and all is fine then.

But this board has every option i want in the bios except for FSB adjustment. I also can't find this option with AMIBCP 3.46. I checked the PLL chip on this board and it is a rtm876-665, which can easily be adjusted with programs like SETFSB, so it is physically wired up on the board correctly to be adjusted through software.

I also found a very similar G31 Biostar motherboard, the Biostar G31M+, which has the same PLL chip and does in fact have the FSB adjustment option in the bios. This is according to the leaked service manual of the G31M+:
http://www.rom.by/files/IG31K-M7S-V6.2S.pdf

Can this option be unlocked or transplanted over from the other bios? They even have the same Super IO controller if i remember correctly. With overclocking, i really prefer a bios setting since the posting behavior of the system also gives information on what is going on when you are on the edge of stability.

My second question is regarding to the 95W cpu TDP limit. If you insert a CPU that has got a higher TDP, the board shows a TDP warning message and turns off. Can this be bypassed? It has been done in this thread by DeathBringer:
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-B...-TDP-limit

I did a hex compare to that unlocked bios with the original bios but i couldn't find any logic behind the changes that were made to that bios. The VRM section will be modded for extra power so this TDP limit really is an annoyance.

The original bios and the G31M+ bios are both listed in the attachements. If you are still reading, thank you for your time.  Wink

EDIT:
I do have a TL866 EEPROM programmer and the bios chip is socketed, so high-risk bios mods aren't a problem since flashing and recovery is very easy. If someone wants do the mods in exchange for a small fee, that's no problem.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 10GS - Kaby Lake Support Request

$

I found a Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 10GS (Small/SFF Model) at the thrift store the other day, and it appears to be in perfect working order. It's currently running with an i3-6100, but spec sheets say this model can be configured with up to an i7-6700. My goal is to turn this thing into an entry level gaming machine on a budget, and so getting a feel for what the BIOS and whitelist will and won't let me do is naturally important. I have an i5-7500 at home, so Kaby Lake support would be both convenient for me and beneficial for future upgrade paths.

I've found a few threads about people looking to do the same, but can't seem to find anything conclusive on whether or not it actually worked. Furthermore, Lenovo is apparently still updating the BIOS on this machine. Here is a link to the most recent BIOS update, which came out this past February. I've reached out to Lenovo asking if the system has Kaby Lake support, but they said there was no word on an update...frustrating.

Meanwhile, I've successfully upgraded the system from Windows 7 to Window 10 with no issue, and have successfully updated the BIOS to the aforementioned February revision. Interestingly, the Lenovo BIOS update tool asked me if I wanted to modify the serial or model number before I started the update process...figured I'd mention that in case doing so would be beneficial in replacing it with a different BIOS entirely. Additionally, I found an update in the chipset category of the support page that seems to be a firmware update tool that involves Kaby Lake. I'm not sure how it's related, but figured it was worth mentioning.

As for a potential donor BIOS, I found that the ThinkCentre M710 and the ThinkCentre M710e both support Kaby Lake CPUs. There are some significant differences between the models though...the biggest of which being the fact that both of the newer models use the B250 chipset, while the M700 uses H110. If nothing else, I imagine that this difference would keep me stuck at DDR4-2133 even with a 7th gen CPU. Let me know if you think there may be additional roadblocks. Regardless, here is a link to the M710 BIOS.

Finally, I am hoping someone can tell me whether or not there is a whitelist for GPUs and wifi cards. The former is obviously most important for a gaming machine; I was hoping to put a Low Profile GPU in here like an MSI GTX 1650 (Or something less expensive but same form factor), but if there's a whitelist can't be circumvented, then this whole project is a bust. Regarding the wifi card, I happen to have a spare intel 3168 M.2 card, but I know the 3165 and 8260 models listed on the spec sheet are readily available, so that's not as big of a deal. But if you happen to be in the areas, I'd love to know what the deal is there.

Ok I think that's everything. Thank you in advance for the assistance, and please let me know if there's anything else I need to provide.

MSI Z170M BIOS chip location and change procedure

Hi,

Deathbringer tried hard to help me reset my long forgotten password for my board that I CMOS reset when my HDD failed and left me with only 2 of 3 monitors working after repair.

But the password bit was something he couldn't help with.

I've not found any alternate BIOS I could flash to overwrite it (but then again being new to all this maybe I've not searched in the right places) so I ordered a new chip thinking it would be like the YouTube videos and be an easy replacement.

I have a new BIOS chip delivered this morning (picture attached) and it doesn't look like the ones in the videos! I'm wondering if anyone knows where on the board I'd find it, and whether it is a soldered chip or a pull and replace chip as it has those horizontal bits on the legs.

Thanks

Joe

Hello Everyone, I have recently bought myself a EVGA Dark. I bought it because i believed that I could get it working with my 6700k. Obviously I was mistaken but was wondering if there is anyone in here that has also tried this. A custom bios would help a ton. Thanks

MSI X58 Platinum SLI BIOS for Xeon W36xx CPUs

I have an MSI x58 Platinum SLI motherboard which I am hoping to update to a Xeon W36xx (right now I have a W3670 available).  Currently it is running an i7-920 at stock speed with 24 gig RAM and MSI bios 3.9 (the most modern one available from MSI).

I have not yet tested it with the Xeon, but I will do so tomorrow.  The BIOS update info suggests that they added Gulftown processor support prior to the v3.9 bios.  But I suspect it may be only for the 980x, 990x family, and maybe not the Xeon versions of those cpus.  I am not sure what will happen if the CPU is not recognized by the BIOS.

Do I need a modded bios for the W36xx series of xeon cpus?  If yes, is there one already made that has support for the w36xx series or even more modern LGA1366 Xeon CPUs?  Where would I find it?

If the W3670 works well, then I may look for a good price on an unlocked W3680/W3690, or maybe a later CPU as long as I can be pretty sure it will function properly on the mobo.

Hi! So I tried to do it myself in AMIBCP4.55.0070 but no matter what changes I make, they simply don't appear in BIOS after flashing the modded version. I don't know what the problem is, maybe there is some kind of protection? There are many options that can be unlocked so, if possible, please unlock as much as possible. If it works I'm willing to paypal some $ for a beer or coffee   Wink Thanks!

[REQUEST] ThinkCentre M700 - Does a whitelist exist?

$

I found a Lenovo ThinkCentre M700 SFF (Model 10GS) at a thrift store, and was considering upgrading it to turn it into a budget gaming machine. I've already put in a request to add Kaby Lake support (it's H110 chipset with Skylake only at the moment) but it seems I'd need a hardware programmer to do so. With that in mind, it might not be worth the effort. However, I'm still curious if there is a whitelist for wifi and potentially even for GPUs as well. It didn't come with a wifi module, though I know other models in this product line definitely did. I read somewhere online that Lenovo may have only supported certain GPUs on this model, regardless of whether or not the GPU fits physically and is within the power requirement. If this is true, then turning this into a gaming machine is hopeless. So I'm hoping someone can take a look and tell me if a whitelist exists, and if so, what parts are supported and how easily the list can be changed.

Here's the information I have:
