hi

i confirm the ability to upgrade toshiba satellite a660-17m cpu from intel core i5 450m socket G1 (TDP 35) to i7 740qm (TDP 45) without modded bios.

i'm writing this thread from it.

so i'm sure you can upgrade the cpu to i7 840qm (since it same socket and TDP).

i will upgrade it again with i7 840qm

i'm not sure if i can upgrade it ti i7 940xm since it's 55 TDP.

but according to cpu-upgrade website the chipset hm55  support cpu with TDP from 35 to 55

before upgrading :
1- be sure there is a dedicate graphic card  such as nvidia or ati or amd.
2- the ram type is either 1066 or 1333.

MOXA 682 BIOS Serial Number Correction/Change

$

Good morning,

I've got a MOXA DA-682 computer running Linux.  When I use dmidecode the serial number in Type 1 comes up blank.  The serial number in Type 2 is correct according to the label on the bottom of the unit.

I assume that the serial numbers presented in the dmidecode come from the BIOS. Using this assumption I'd like to try and correct the serial number some how.

In reading the forum (and the sticky post there) I've downloaded a number of programs and tried to download others.  I've noticed that alot of information is old and I've scoured the net looking for copies of the files mentioned.I know you ask for link to the bios from the manufacturer (I can't seem to find it as the unit is EOL) and offer a program to download a copy of the BIOS (the link to the file share gives me an error so I can't even search for a free range copy of the file).

I'm going to try and run phlash16-1.7.0.21 and see what I get.

I've also acquired some blank BIOS chips and would like to create copies of the bios in case I mess them up.  Is there a device to allow me to write a copied bios to the chip?

I realize that there is much information lacking in this post and I'll update it as I find answers and have more questions.

Dell Studio Hybrid BIOS Extract

Hello everyone,

Long story short : I have found my old Studio Hybrid 140G and wanted to perform a CPU upgrade form Core 2 Duo T5750 to Core 2 Duo T9900.
Bought the T9900, swapped the CPU's but the PC won't start (gives me the amber colour on the power button).
Also have found out that the 140G only supports CPU up to the T9500.
Found this tutorial (https://www.delidded.com/how-to-update-c...-ami-bios/) to update the Microcode in BIOS in order to make it support my new CPU.

My problem : None of the tutorials worked when I tried to extract the .bios or .hdr file because I need them in order to proceed with the upgrade/update.

So if somebody could help me to extract the .bios or .hdr files from this (https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/...erid=v1vky) Bios.exe or could extract them for me I'd be very thankful !

Best Regards,

Request Bios unlock/Whitelist removal Toshiba L50-a-10q

Hi there,

I was hoping for someone to help me unlock my Bios/remove the white list for my hardware.

Long story Short I'm playing around with an older laptop trying to strap an external Graphics card to it through a PCIE x1 Riser (I know I know, It's probably not worth anything performance wise. But I'm just having fun messing around (also trying to prove my friends wrong by getting it working)) You'll probably have to walk me through things quite thoroughly as I'm not a programmer and script kiddie (Not Hacking) probably sums me up pretty well  Angel

So I've hit a stone wall where it comes to my bios not allowing me to boot with the External PCIE attached, With it plugged in I get basiclly a white underscore of disapproval from my laptop in the top left corner. Without it, it boots happily.

I'm happy to Donate if that helps you guys out

The Laptop is a
Toshiba L50-a-10q

Bios is InsydeH20 REV 3.7
Version 1.8
EC: 1.3

Looking forward to your replies =D

Bios recovery for Asus laptop

Hello!

It has past a few months until I decided to downgrade my laptop's bios, an ASUS X555QG, more specifically, with an AMD A10 APU. It seemed it went correctly, but when I tried to turn it on, I realized that it never boots. It's symptoms are these ones:
It turns on with all the fans spinning and lights, and also the disc tray seems to try reading a disc always, like when an AMI bios gets corrupted. When I plug a USB on the 3.0 ports, nothing happens, but when I plug it to a USB 2.0, the USB light starts blinking, like trying to read a recovery file. I have tried:

Connecting it through HDMI to a TV, putting my bios file with very different names like AMIBOOT.ROM, AMIBOOT.BIN, X555QGAS.BIN, X555QGAS.258 and many other combinations to make it work, nothing seems to happen.

Also tried to hold CTRL + HOME, FN + HOME, CTRL + F2, F4, F8, and also SHIFT + WIN + B and also nothing works, I have removed the battery, for days and nothing works.

PhoenixTool generates not a recovery name for this laptop's bios, but it does with other variants what results weird to me. I'd love to hear any advice from you, no matter how simple it sounds. I'm thinking of purchasing a flasher with the clip, to avoid desoldering and soldering the bios chip, but I don't really know if it would work with my board and my chip, that is a Winbond 25Q64FWSIQ 1805. Thank you in advance.

flashing unlocked bios for Acer Aspire 722

hello everyone,

recently i bought a second hand Acer aspire one 722, fun little device. And after having it upgraded to 8gb of ram and a SSD this thing flies!

But unfortunately for me that wasn't enough, I want to run a virtual machine on it. But to my dismay i figured that Acer has AMD-V disabled and the video memory was locked to 256 mb of VRAM in the BIOS.

Luckily on this forum I found.. what i think is a unlocked bios for this system but i am not sure. the BIOS version is 1.04 and on this laptop is 1.08 installed.

Would it be a wise decision to flash this unlocked bios to the system? since I am hoping it won't break compatibility with the RAM and upcoming Windows 10 installation. (and of course if it unlocks at least the AMD-V option)

thanks for answering!  Smile

Help Detecting & Programming W25Q64FV BIOS using CH341A Programmer

$

Hello there!
My ASUS ROG G751JY died in the middle of bios update to version .213, during bios erase stage. Ever since I'm trying to dump the contents and reprogram that [censored] chip. I'm using a CH341a programmer + SIIC8 Clip. I'm wondering if the chip is dead and needs to be replaced / resoldered with another 64 megabit module?
I have attached a photo of CH341 Programmer 1.34. Chip cannot be detected - every time I click detect - there are different values at the Manufacturer ID / Memory Type / Memory Capacity etc. I have manually selected the bios chip itself from the supported chips within the software - same results. The hex output appears to be the same when I dumped a bios under linux using flashrom 1.1 and ch341prog tools.

Any help is welcome. Thanks Undecided

Bios Update without Battery

Hello Guys,

I have a old Laptop from Medion with Aptio 4 Bios from AMI without a connected battery.
So no matter what I try to Update the Bios I always get the following error:

 - AC adapter is not connected or There is no installed battery or Battery remaining charge level of the battery is lower than 30%.
d - Error: BIOS Report Error.

Even if I try to update the Bios with the /JBC parameter (Don't Check AC adapter and battery) it wont work.

I tried it normaly by executing the .exe-file, updating with dos and also with a uefi shell but everything without success...

My Specs:

Medion akoya E6240T
Model: E6240T
Model No.: MD99390
MSN No.: 30017220

Bios-Update File: http://download.medion.com/downloads/tre...MD.613.exe

The extractet exe contains following:

UBIOS.bat:

Code:
@Net stop pcasvc >NUL 2>&1
@echo on

@%~dp0FWUpdLcl64.exe -f %~dp0Production_TXE_REGION.bin -y -allowsv

%~dp0fptw64.exe -f %~dp0M1366.BIN -a 0x76a000  -p %~dp0fparts.txt

%~dp0afuwinx64.exe %~dp0C15MMD.613 /p /b /n /capsule /defans

@Net start pcasvc >NUL 2>&1

Log:

So my Question:

Is there any way to force update the bios witout a battery? And why did the /JBC parameter wont work for me?

Thanks alot and sorry for my bad english.

Enable/Configure Bifurcation on X58

I was wondering if there was some type of feature that's 'hidden' in the BIOS for some X58 motherboards related to Bifurcation;

When looking at the datasheet for Intel's X58 chipset it references supporting bifurcation but references code, which makes it seem like this is something that I need to be able to configure in the BIOS and am unable to find any settings related to bifurcation in my P6T7 BIOS menu.

3.2.2.1
Port Bifurcation
The IOH supports port bifurcation using PEWIDTH[5:0] hardware straps. The IOH supports the following configuration modes:
• The width of all links are exactly specified by the straps
• The width of all links are programmed by the BIOS using the PCIE_PRTx_BIF_CTRL register (wait on BIOS mode)

Corrupted BIOS on Acer helios 500

Hi.

I have a Acer Predator Helios 500 (PH517-17 (i9, GTX1070 8Gb) that used to have bios v1.14, after I upgraded  windows to 1903 (i think it is), the bios was automaticly updated to V1.16 (with V1.14 my Corsair vengence 4X16GB 2666mhz runs perfect @ 2666Mhz, but with V1.16 it won´t boot with those memory modules, unless I use the original 2400Mhz modules in the first 2 slots, causing the 2 last slots to run @ 2400Mhz), i still have the V1.14 bios file, and downgraded the bios, but something went wrong... when turned on, only the keyboard lights up (FN+Esq can still put it into recovery mode, but theres no activity on any of the USB ports...) ordered a CH341a programmer, and i can read the bios without errors, can it be resqued without being sent to Acer?

Convert FPT dump for Hardware flasher CH341a

Hey everyone,
I have a bios dump of my laptop using Intel FPT using the command  fptw64 -d fullbios.rom

I tried it with hardware flasher but it didn't worked. The hardware flasher actually flashed the BIOS but the laptop didn't posted.

So can anyone convert the bios dump I linked in this thread to work with hardware flasher? I am using CH341a with clip.

Thanks.
