Hello, I upgraded my old laptop CPU from i3 380M to i7 640M and Turbo Boost does not working. I have no option in BIOS for enabling it. Can someone mod my BIOS and unlock this option?

It's Packard Bell Easynote TK85
Photo of BIOS (in the top right corner is V3.5, it's not visible on photo...)

BIOS version is V1.30, here is the link for Packard Bell site: http://global-download.packardbell.com/G...SC=EMEA_7P

Can someone help me with this? I know there is a lot of modded bioses, but they are older versions (and I don't know if I can flash older version) or there is no info what was unlocked... I don't want to brick it, because it's my car diagnostic laptop with very expensive diagnostic program.

Thanks for help!

Aspire E5-571G Insyde BIOS supervisor password reset

Greetings people of the bios-mods!

Problem: BIOS supervisor password that is forgotten.

Manufacturer: Acer
Model: Aspire E5-571G
Architecture: 64 bit
OS: Win 10
Motherboard: Acer EA50_HB(U3E1)

BIOS.ver: Insyde Corp.V1.32, 15.09.2015(latest)
SKU: Aspire E5-571G_0867_V1.32
SMBIOS.ver: 2.8
BIOS Mode: UEFI

Experience with BIOS: Close to zero. And I also don't happen to have handy hardware programmer for this purpose at hand.

What I have done so far:
1) Entering password 3 times, getting a code and putting it into online generators
(50648485 → 45720401)

2) Downloading Acer Empowering Technology+Acer eSettings Management for password drop
(Deprecated software last developed for win XP that obviously didn’t work on win 10)

3) Trying to boot USB with clnpnwd(boot menu on F12 or del is disabled in BIOS it seems), also tried to remove the HDD to force USB boot but ended up with “No boot device”

4) Disassembling the whole device to see a soldered CMOS battery at the very bottom knowing that
a) I don’t have much experience soldering(Though do have knowledgeable neighbour)
b) Reset might not work in this particular case because of EEPROM.(From what I have read)

5) Flashed latest BIOS from Acer website modifying platform.ini [Force Flash] part "Password=0" to "Password=1"
(Nothing changed)

Things to try from my head:
1) Acer seems to refuse to assist customers with BIOS password issues(backdoor key) unless you send the laptop to them and pay a $100 fee.(I live in a squat eating freegan stuff with 0$ in my pocket)

2) Swap HDD to another one with clnpnwd on it(No spare HDD atm)

3) Flash some custom BIOS?(pure blind black magic) But according to the wiki here it doesn’t exist for this model. And I don’t even know if it might help.

4) Bios recovery as stated on the website in the “Insyde BIOS Recovery” but
a) tools from “paragraph 3” mentioned there do not exist
b) I have BDW.fd and HSW.fd in my bios folder from acer(extracted from temp folder) and it seems only 1 is needed
c) I am not sure it is in any way related to the password issue

5) Reserved for suggestions because so far I am out of ideas but I truly believe it is possible to accomplish without working as a coitus-slave to pay acer.

I would be incredibly grateful for any help provided, thanks in advance! Angel

P.S If there is documentation/book/manual/whatever to read and it contains something you don't want to explain which is useful in solving the problem feel free to link/post the name of the literature/etc and I will do my best to acquire new knowledge to increase my competence.

Hello,

I'm new in this forum and I wondered if someone could unlock this bios. I couldn't find an unlocked Version.
(I want to get into Overclocking and learn from it.)

What I tried :

I tried to Overclock with Bclk but this feautures is locked. I also tried to find the correct Pll (Also didn't work) . The Cpu is has a locked multiplier which is a pain (+ No bios Options). I can't do Voltagemods like on the Gpu. I couldn't mod the Bios as easy as with my Gpu. I tried the Tape Mod on the Cpu ...gave me just 100mhz+.

The Cpu is a Intel Pentium g6950 @2.8 ghz

So basically nothing worked.....

The .rom file is down in the attachments.

So yeah... Thanks if someone could take the time.

(If somebody knows good a Bios Editors/Tweaker Softwares..... feel free to leave a message.)
Just trying to learn something. xD

HP Pavilion DV7-3080US Corrupt bios

Hi
I have HP DV7-3080US laptop and I tried to use unlocked bios present in this link (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-R...ock?page=2) providede by the member BDMaster
it worked fine so I have advanced options but there is problem with ACPI when I try to run windows it just keep loading then restart, when I insert installation media it showed blue screen (The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant). Also for Ubuntu 18.04.2 (unable to enable acpi).
I can run puppy linux or ubuntu-8.04.4 or FreeDos.
I had made bios backup before flashing the corrupted bios so I have .rom file.
I had tried many ways to restore to the original bios with no success.
I tried putting the old backup file into flash drive formatted with FAT32 and pressing (Windows+B)Keys , it read the flash for like 10 to 20 seconds but then reboot normally without any changes, I also tried to install the bios files from HP sit and extracting .bin file putting it to flash renaming it to various of names that I thought it should be named to but also with no success.
I tried making HP diagnostic flash drive but it does not show me Firmware tab.

I have put some photos of what I was talking about in the attachment in the .rar file(I was not able to put directly to the attachment it say that maximum file size should be 0.5 megabyte)

Can any one help me please??

I have a Lenovo engineering Thinkpad laptop with beta version bios, which cannot be upgraded using the regular bios upgrade tool from Lenovo support website.

Does anyone know what type of bios is used by Lenovo Thinkpad in general such as T480s?

Also how to use non-Lenovo bios tool to flash the bios?

I inserted a CPU microcode patch of CPUID 50652 (b0) to the latest BIOS , after updating the bios using the modded rom, the system no longer works.
When I try to restore the pre backed up bios file (through ipmi) I receive message "couldn't find FID String" then it doesn't allow the flashing.

Any suggestions on how to fix the server? (Official bios 2.1 that supports the CPU is not found for download)

[HELP REQUEST] Is it possible to downgrade an Insyde bios?

Hi all Smile

I have this Acer A315-41 laptop: it worked fine until I decided to update the bios... -_-

Now the CPU fan is ALWAYS on (or at least is on for the most part of the time I use the laptop, even is I am just browsing the web or listening to some mp3), and the CPU temperature is like 80/90 C° even is I am just watching some video... -_-

My bios version is 1.13.

https://www.acer.com/ac/it/IT/content/su...t/7540?b=1

This is the Acer webpage of my laptop.

I've tried to reinstall a clean W10, checked every possible virus, malware an so on, but everything is just fine: this weird behaviour started the very moment after I updated the bios.

I've checked also any software which starts with windows, but I have nothing set on automatic start.

Is there any way I could rollback to the previous bios?

Thank you for your help Smile

Trying to control fans with AMI Bios

I have an HP Mediasmart Server (EX-490) on which I have installed Windows 10.   I am trying to figure out how to control the fans on this machine using the SpeedFan app.  Unfortunately, SpeedFan can't detect the fans in order to control them.  There are settings in the AMI bios (Ver. ENCRB015) dealing with fan control, and I was hoping that making changes to the bios setting would allow SpeedFan to detect and control the fans.

I haven't been able to find any information online about these bios settings so I thought I'd ask some of the experts on this board.  I'm attaching a screenshot a bios screen that seems to deal with fan control.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for how to adjust the bios settings in order to control the fan.

Thanks.

Bob

New and would love advice on where to start.

As the subject suggests I'm new to the whole idea of Bios modding, never done it before. Not only am I trying to mod a computer i have laying around but i actually would like to know where to start when it comes to writing custom BIOS/ROMS entirely. What language(s) should i look into and/or learn, what PC application(s) do i need to use and/or download? I need to know any and everything involved with going start to finish from writing the bios, compiling, then flashing, although i have flashed firmware before, i was into the whole PSP hacking scene and was quite good at modding ram hex values to do whatever i wanted inside games and apps. Is modding bios going to be at all similar? I have seen some bios hacks (i think) that used hex editors. If anyone could point me in the right direction to get started that would be great. My end goal as a whole and need to mod bios is because i see to create a SUB ZERO cooled PC for the masses, and need to know how to write a bios as nothing currently exists that would meet my needs sufficiently.

Question about BIOS for Asus G550JK / N550JK

Question about BIOS for Asus G550JK / N550JK
Quote:Hi all,

Recently my G550JK suddenly died. In the local ASUS service center told me, that the motherboard is defective and that replacing with a new one would cost $1500 /Oh yes, sure [Image: rolleyes.png]/. After this suggestion I tried to repair the MB by myself and almost succeeded, but this is experience for another thread [Image: smile.png]. Either way, I had to order from e-Bay new replacement motherboard for $200 - N550JV Rev 2.1, featuring the same P/N and hardware - CPU Intel i7 4600HQ-3300Mhz, GPU Nvidia GTX 850M 4GB DDR3. As a matter of fact, the PCB appears in an absolutely identical way to the original one including imprints, chips, stickers etc. I installed it, the laptop powered-on normally, all the hardware was correctly recognized and worked just the way as with the old MB. The only visible difference is in the 'ASUS' boot logo instead of 'ROG' because of different BIOS version. The BIOS is reported to be for N550JK platform, instead of G550JK. I desoldered the BIOS chip /Winbond W25Q64VF/ from the old defective MB and dumped it in bin file. Also I downloaded the latest BIOS update file from ASUS official website. In other words, I'm ready to reflash the BIOS of the new MB. But since doing this there is always a chance to end up with a bricked laptop, I would like to hear your opinions whether it makes sense to do it, provided that everything looks good at first glance. The information I was able to find about the ' G ' and ' N ' models is that they differ only in design, but is it true? Is it possible to have any peculiarities in the BIOS of G550, which optimizes the performance of the hardware for this model?

HP 212B for E5-1660v3

Hi guys,

at the beginning sorry if I created this thread in a wrong section.

I received used HP workstation with E5-1660V3 (multiplier unlocked) but I cannot overclock it neither in BIOS nor in XTU/ThrottleStop. Cores multipliers are always greyed and I cannot change it.

What I got from HP forum is that the fault is on motherboard that not supports overclocking. Do you know if it can be changed with BIOS modification?

Good morning forum!
I have a question for you experts... I have the motherboard in subject.
I currently have 2x 2690v2 in it so a whole 20c/40t running at 3ghz... I would like to play with the system a bit...
Do you think it would be possible to unlock some overclock functionalities on the motherboard like BCLK control and some kind of voltage contro? I have plans to water cool the thing in near future so heat won't be an issue...

Thanks a lot for help!

Hey there,

For Hackintosh purposes, I've tried to fit a Broadcom wifi adapter into my Matebook 13. I was really excited to get this ultrabook for its specs and the fact that you can swap out the wifi card (the things we get excited about in an ultrabook these days ;-)), but quickly found out that Huawei decided to implement a whitelist in that only allows Intel modems to work on the Matebook 13 (which, in turn, do not work on macOS). I've never had to temper with a BIOS in my life and was wondering if the good folks in here could perhaps help a man out.
