Acer Aspire 9500 - Insyde ACPI Bios 4.20.09 from 2005

Hi, the original idea started in 2012, where I got told, my Insyde BIOS would be "too new" to be modded.

Mabye it changed ? I stumbled across donovan6000 his blog  for example :

Insyde Modding
http://donovan6000.blogspot.de/2013/06/i...-tabs.html

But still, even Andys Tool says "no Insyde Bios".

The original downloadable BIOS v1.70 that I flashed back then looks like this :

Here is the link to the BIOS :

http://www.acer.com/ac/de/DE/content/sup...ct/140?b=1

Its a Laptop where I want to change the splashscreen.

Acer Aspire 9500 (Modell DQ70).

Mainboard: Compal Stork (Chipset i915PM/GM, Southbridge 82801FBM (ICH6-M)

Pentium M 760 @ 2 GHz

Insyde Software MobilePRO Version 4.20.10, using the "Acer HQD70" Bios 1.60. (512kb)

Right after startup it additionally says "Insyde ACPI Bios 4.20.09" short before initialising the HDD and the CD-Rom.

I made a backup of the 1.60 using the "Universal BIOS Backup ToolKit 2.0" but couldnt open it either.

Its UUID is : 61373537326131356136000FB0F07732

Firmware 101.114
Bios Date: 12/29/2005
Bios Starting Segment : EB00h

I gave up and I really hope someone else found a way in the meantime, as I just digged out this laptop once again. Smile

And reply is welcome.

Need assistance with AMI BIOS - CPU - HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop

I need some assistance with a BIOS mod to remove CPU restriction for a HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop s5704y - with a Foxconn OEM Motherboard H-Apricot-RS780L-uATX (Apricot) http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/publi...-c02552467

I managed to extract current bios with tools found here on this site (thanks!). Attached as: "AS_FOUND.ROM"

HP's "nag" permits boot (hitting F2 several times) but fouls entry into Setup. Would like to remove restriction by eliminating check or white-listing CPU correctly. HP claims that 95w CPUs are supported but error message is still issued.

http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c02552467 My issue similar to: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Har...-p/2255203

Target processor is 95W Phenom II X6 1055T Six-Core (Thuban core). Tapping "F2" during boot bypasses "ERROR: Unsupported CPU installed" / auto-power-down sequence, and boots correctly into Windows (7) which recognizes the processor just fine.

Machine is for student - so making it EZ without the work-around would be best.

Extract Dell BIOS image

I've got a Dell Venue 11 Pro 7130 which is (effectively) non functional.

There is an issue with the main boot device, its not detected. I am unable to boot from any other devices (usb/sd/etc) due to the bios being configured to only boot from the ssd. Its system locked so I'm unable to edit the configuration.

I've had it apart and tried removing the cmos battery and an assortment of other things that didn't work.

I've been toying with reprogramming the bios to hopefully completely reset and remove the password but I cant figure out how to get a bios image from the exe available from dell.

None of the flags, such as -writebinfile and the like, are available on the latest versions (or older versions) of the bios. I've tried running the exe to see if it unpacks the files but it looks like it detects that its not running on the correct hardware and doesn't even bother loading.

I've tried running it under dos too and there is a /b flag but have not been able to find any information about it's use.

I've managed to read the existing bios image from the chip, but I don't know what if anything I can do with it.

Can anyone tell me weather it's possible (and how) to extract an image from the update files?

Lenovo U410 - Reflash / Fix broken BIOS

Hey there,

I am starting this thread because you (as an experienced community) are probably my last hope to revive my U410 I recently tried to update with a newer BIOS version.

Originally I planned to utilize a better ac adapter (Intel 7260) to replace my old atheros WiFI. After the first assembly I got the known error that the device could not be varified by the BIOS. In the following I went back to the old adapter and (foolishly) tried my luck with the newest manufacturer release of the BIOS. The old version was the 65CN21WW, the newer one is the 65CN99WW which I downloaded as an executable for Win7 x64. When starting the client I hit the backup + flash button and waited for the laptop to reboot. When the boot procedure began I directly entered the BIOS config to see whether the changes were applied. Unfortunately I had to observe that the device identity had changed from U410 to U310!

Thus, as far as I can tell, the client has failed to install the proper BIOS version which lleads me to the issue that the notebook cannot boot in UEFI mode (with flashmode enabled) anymore. On startup I can only see the Win7 logo, then the PC freezes and reboots.
In pure Legacy mode I can still boot into the system. Some of the Lenovo software functionality are (of course) broken but otherwise the computer runs mostly fine. But on the other hand I am not able to reflash the BIOS due to the UEFI mode + flashmode being disabled ("Only secured capsule is allowed on a SecureFlash system").

At this point I am not quite sure whether the comuter can be fixed at all (or at least: not that easily) because I cannot boot in UEFI mode. All my latest attempts with a USB drives and the W7 installation disc lead to freezes or errors. When starting in UEFI mode, the startup of the disc freezes (just like when booting the system). When trying to install a new system (on another hard drive) via Legacy mode the progress appears to run at first. But when finalizing the installation Windows recognizes a incompatibility and cancels the process... rebooting leads to the same issue.

I have also tried some scripts that flash a modified 65CN99WW via usb DOS but they all fail at some point. Via Legacy they possibly cannot write iin flashmode. And I could not find any working usb scripts so far that work in UEFI mode. There was only an older (kinda dubios) post in another forum which I tried in my dispair. The package does even allow me to start via usb in UEFI mode but spits out an error when trying to flash resp. loading the image ("PFlash: Read file error – 65CN99WW_v10.CAP").

Well then,
do you think there is any chance to flash a working BIOS that restores the U410 device status?
Before contacting a local lenovo partner that might charge a fortune for a fix (reflash with default BIOS) or who might even fail to find a solution for this issue I wanted initiate another thread, hoping for you help. Needless to say I am also willing to offer an appropriate donation in case a user takes his or her time to help me out of this misery (as far as the forum allows such private agreements ).

Best Regards,
G.O.

Hello, i'm Mauro from Italy, and sorry for my not good english.

I've a problem. My Dell (XPS L501X with i7, BIOS Phoenix A08) tells me that my AC adpter is inknown (it' the original one and new). So the battery is not charging due to a Dell security decision Dodgy

So i want to try to unlock my BIOS and tell him tha AC adapter is 130W and it's all ok. Could be a solution? Does the BIOS unlocked let me to do this operation?

I'm not able to find another good solution because other solution are:
 - change the AC adapter (done);
 - reset the BIOS to default (done);
 - uninstall and reinstall the Win AC adapter drivers (done);
 - take the ID chip from the AC adapter and installing it on the motherboard (i don't want to do it).

So could be a good try?

Thank you!

got error UEFI message because bios is locked.
Laptop type is Acer SW5-173, Insyde bios, Setup utility version 5.0
Laptop running last 1.08 bios version, on the Acer site are also couple of older
bios versions available, maybe it's possible use them for modification ?

Hey all,
I've got a Dell Inspiron 545s with a DG33M05 board, I'd like to get AHCI mode instead of the default IDE and RAID modes if not all options, as well as (If possible) the support for more CPUs.

5160 is confirmed working. This is the BIOS I used (made by Deathbringer): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5mWzL5...=drive_web

If you do this (or any CPU on this board) and the multiplier is lower than what the CPU is rated for, don't worry, it's just Speedstep. You can't disable it in the BIOS unfortunately. As soon as you run an intensive program like Prime95, your cores should start running at full speed.
