ami aptio 4 - no recovery mode

Hey,
i tried to recover my Dell Vostro 3350 after the UEFI was bricked.
however, i tried a trick found on the dell board:

Quote:Solution fo recovery bios Dell N5110

1. Download the latest firmware from the Dell support
2. Save the exe and create a shortcut with the following parameter: " /writehdrfile"
3. Start the created shortcut and it will create a n5110a11.hdr file rename the file to N5110.hdr
4. Create a shortcut exe file with the following parameter: " /writeromfile"
5. Start the created shortcut and it will create a n5110a11.rom file rename the file to DQ15A11.rom
6. Copy both file "N5110.hdr" and "DQ15A11.rom" to a FAT formatted pendrive's root folder
7. Remove the charger and Battery from the laptop
8. Plug In the pendrive
9. Press & hold END
10. Connect the charger (still hold END)
11. The notebook starts automatically and shows the recovery screen
12. Press enter and wait until finish the flashing
13. Press esc to restart
14. Hopefully problem solved
http://en.community.dell.com/support-for...t/19534608

Hold end and connect the charger will start my notebook.
but the bios wouldn't be read from my usb device.
i formatted it with the tool rufus. fat32, mbr, active partition.
i tried also different names e.g. dn13a10.rom (suggested by Andy P's SLIC tool) or dn13a10.hdr, 3350.hdr, 3350.rom, whatever.
didn't work.
Which module is responsible for this sort of recovery?
Any idea why it doesn't work on this device?
My UEFI: http://www.dell.com/support/home/gh/en/g...erId=99FC7

i flashed the sop8 chip manually with my spi flash device.
it's working again.
but i want to prevent future errors - so i hope some someone can give me a hint.
have no desire to unscrew the hole device till the last [censored] again.

Kind Regards,

UEFI Bios modding to reveal hidden menus?

$

I've got an Asus Rampage IV extreme with the X79 chipset, I'd like to mod it so I can pick which PCI-E slot it looks at at POST for video. I've seen menus on my gigabyte boards (though only ones with integrated video now that I think about it) that let me pick Integrated, PCI-E slot 1, PCI-E slot 3, etc for the default. Is that something I might be able to accomplish with a bios edit for the Asus board (no onboard video)? I remember revealing hidden menus on old AMI and Award bios back in the day, long before UEFI came about, but I've not done it in years.

P5G-MX CPU support unlock

I just wanted to use this old Asus P5G-MX board as a testbench, but faced one problem - it boots only with conroe CPUs.
All others (I tried Celeron 331 and P4 640) shows this screen and turns of after few seconds:

Okay, I thought that is microcode-related. So taken microcodes from P5GC-VM PRO BIOS from asus site (that supports all what I need), added some LGA771 microcodes (remember, this is a testbench, so I like it support as much CPUs as possible), updated all CPUID+Platform to the latest binaries, shrinked splashscreen to full black to fith all that microcodes to 512k image, made it, flashed it - and no changes, it still doesn't want to run with Cel-331 and P4-640. I think there is hardcoded CPUID check. Can somebody help me to override it? I'm not so experienced in ASM coding Sad

Error string and its ID in AMIbcp: http://i.imgur.com/In56Wpj.png

Bios image I have for now:
http://rgho.st/private/89tnCpr8p/6a9a86f...5e51b4845f

Yes, I understand that board have weak power source to run all CPUs, but I just want it to start and boot, load will depend on what CPU I will use.
And if something goes wrong - I have hardware programmer to reflash its BIOS. So I'm free to experiment with it.

[REQUEST] ASUSTek P5QL/EPU completely unlocked BIOS

Hello!
I'm currently running the latest version of my ASUStek P5QL/EPU motherboard BIOS, v.0408, last dated 2009/09/28, still available at the following address: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock...U-0408.zip
The BIOS works quite well, and seems to be fairly unlocked, yet since I started overclocking my Intel Q9400 CPU, I noticed it lacks some very important tweaks, such as complete controls over CPU Voltage (this is quite vital to optimize CPU temperature and avoid overheating). Angel
Having done a little research, I found out more detailed options on the matter seems to be available on ASUStek P5QL-E and P5QL Pro motherboards, which should be very similar to mine (for details and screenshots, see: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/...5qle/4.htm - screenshot n. 22/69 on that page).
My question is: would that be possible to unlock the curent BIOS version to allow CPU Voltage customization and all other tweaks that are not currently available on my model?
Many thanks to anyone who can provide a solution. I managed to push my CPU to a quite stable 3Ghz, but my temperatures reach 75° under stress, and I feel some voltage optimization should lower them a bit. Big Grin

Hi everyone. I was hoping to get this accomplished without having to ask for help, especially since I've never posted here and haven't offered any assistance myself, but I'm stuck in a situation that could brick my computer and was hoping on some input. This answer may help others too in my situation.

I've upgraded his onboard graphics to an nvidia 610gt only to find that there is no option to disable the onboard graphics, and the only way to get Windows to display correctly (remove artifacts) is to install a driver from nvidia that supports both the 6150 integrated and the 610gt (aka the latest 6150 driver). *** The artifacts will persist if you try to simply disable the card in device manager and use a 610gt driver without the 6150 support ***

I beleive that I may have found a solution that will disable the onboard graphics allowing me to update to the latest driver (and therefore allow a Windows 10 installation). My idea is to use the CBROM.exe file to remove the vga orom from the bios binary file. My question is will the integrated graphics still be detected by the OS if I do this, or will this prevent the device from initializing as I hope it will? Will no vga initialize including the 610 that I installed if I do this?

Thanks for any help.

PC104/PM-LX2: Cannot enter values with amibcp

$

Hi!

I use a pc104-board PM-LX2 and want to modify the bios to restart with modified settings after bios-lost due to battery failures.

With an old amibcp v3.46 it is possible to change nearly all settings but I still have problems with values with no combobox for choosing values. (hope, somebody can understand me). For Example, the base adress for SIO3 is selectable from "disable,3f8,2f8,.... etc"

For example, I can change the floppy value from 1,44" to "disabled" but I cannot change the value for Internal Graphics memory. Here I cannot choose a value from a prefilled combobox. I have to enter a number manually.

This seems to be impossible with amibcp. Is this right or is there a special trick to enter a value there?

Any suggestions?
thx...

Hello,
--- Sorry I've write in Award section. Is it possible to put my message in AMI section ? Thanks---

i'm not sure to write  on the good forum but I've brick the bios of a friend's computer. I think if you can modify bios you know how to restore a bios.

My frien have problem with sata and usb3. On Packard Bell site it's recommended to update the bios. Update and verifin is OK...
But when I restart I've only blank screen, fan on, powerled on.
I tried to clear cmos with jumper, remove the battery and search other solution on you site.
So I test global solution for bios AMI (Aptio): put file rom (P11-A2L.CA) on usb fat32 flashdrive.
It's bad because I don't know file name and extension (try to rename amiboot.rom...). And I don't know caps keyboard to press. I try ctrl+home, ctrl+esc, ctrl+end, windows+b)

For the name I try  Andy P’s SLIC too but the soft say "Bios size no valid"

What do you thing is wrong ? Is bios found on Packard Bell is really correct and complete (desktop->iMedia xx.U7J (=s2110) ? Do you knox combinaison keyboard ? do you know name and extension for the file

For infomation motherboard D1F-AD is made by acer. It seems the same as dekstop ACER ASPIRE AX 1430

Thak you very much by advance

Acer One 10 - Flash Update Failed

Unit: Acer One 10 (S1001)

I downloaded the latest bios and updated it thru windows. When it was done, I rebooted the laptop. After reboot this message appears (see photo below). It will restart in 5 seconds and the unit is rebooting every 5 seconds.

Is there anyway I can solve this problem? By the way, before updating the bios I did a back up of the original bios. Can I restore the original bios?

I already spent a day trying to research, searching the net for solution. I can't seem to find one.

Thank you for any help!
