PCH-DL and NCCH-DL PCI initialization

Hello,

I have an Asus PCH-DL and an Asus NCCH-DL board (only one of them is used, but the problem stands for both). I have a regular PCI SATA card (Silicon Image SIL3512) in one of the regular PCI slots for the DVD drive, and an Areca ARC1110 card for the HDD's in one of the 64-bit slots. Though both boards have on-board SATA, my Samsung DVD does not like them (sometimes the drive cannot be seen by the BIOS).

Both of the boards initialize the PCI-X bus first, then the 32-bit PCI bus. The problem is that the Areca card needs relatively long time to initiailze itself, and only after it comes the Silicon Image. The boot-up time could be reduced by ~10 seconds or more if the Silicon Image card would search for the drives first and during that, the Areca could finalize its initialization (test CPU, BIOS, RAM, PCI-bus, etc.).

Can this be solved by a BIOS mod?

Both boards are based on the i875P (Canterwood) MCH and the 6300ESB (Hence Rapid) ICH. They have AGP, PCI-X and PCI. The BIOSes are also similar.

My lappy is alienware m17x r4, with A11 bios of insydeh20.
For the last few days, I tried to flash an unlocked a11 bios but it seemed not to work due to the write protection.
Can some one help me to pass this issue?

my request is not to unlock but to lock a bios feature on my GA-Z77X-UP5-TH
Bios (Uefi) version F11

In the bios there's an option in Peripherals called "xHCI Mode = Smart Auto"

From manual:
"Smart Auto
This mode is available only when the BIOS supports the xHCI controller in the pre-boot environment. This mode is similar to Auto, but it adds the capability to route the ports to xHCI or EHCI according to setting used in previous boots (for non-G3 boot) in the pre-boot environment. This allows the use of USB 3.0 devices prior to OS boot. xHCI controller enabling and rerouting should follow the steps in Auto, when previous boot routs ports to EHCI. Note: This is the recommended mode when BIOS has xHCI pre- boot support."

The on-board USB 3.0 port function like a 2.0 port before OS USB 3.0 driver load.
If you reboot the OS, during this reboot BIOS phase, BIOS is "Smart" enough to avoid downgrade the USB 3.0 port back to 2.0 functionality before OS USB 3.0 driver load. So Smart Auto is faster than Auto on 2nd boot onward.

Bios is dependent on Windows/USB3 driver to make that smart feature step in.

I'm dual booting Windows and OS X 10.8.3 on my comp and it's not a big problem for me but for many other that dosn't have windows on their hackintosh

Can that "xHCI Mode = Smart Auto" be locked so that the USB3 ports won't be downgraded to USB2 ?

If so i would also like to have Slic 2.1 (Gigabyte)

Hi Guys...

I hope that this is the correct forum for this post.

Thanks for such an informative site. A little bewildering, but give me time and I'll be up to speed with all your info - I hope.

I have a Compaq Presario F500 running Vista 32-bit.

My current BIOS Version is F.03:

HP's latest 'current' BIOS is F.20: (Which I have not installed):

The machine has been repaired - (GPU reballing & fan speed mod) and is working fine. The fan now runs at full speed - continuously. It is driving me to distraction - making the laptop almost unusable.

I have installed Afterburner and Speedfan. The Afterburner readout is great, Speedfan has no effect. The fan speed cannot be adjusted, and is greyed out.

The laptop will be used on a firm surface - and I will be monitoring the GPU temp carefully. (It currently idles at about 51-55 degs). I would like to edit the BIOS - I presume that the BIOS has been 'modded' by HP to run the fan at max - to slowly reduce the fan to a reasonable level.

I am aware of the Nvidia Go 6100 heat problems & I'm willing to risk the slower fan speed. Can anyone advise please ? Has anyone been successful at reducing the fan speed via the BIOS ? I am presuming that the fan speed is controlled within the BIOS after all the complaints with this model unseating the GPU.

If all else fails I could even wire in an external fan supply - or tap from the board using a zener - with a sensor on the board just for the fan, but I'd like to try the BIOS edit first. If necessary I can cut open the base to increase air flow. The machine is intended as a music server and will be on a firm surface to ensure a reasonable air flow.

I've flashed BIOSes before (not on this laptop), and have had no problems. I've even tried searching for a BIOS prior to this HP 'Fan Speed' mod without success. Is anyone here aware of a site that keeps a laptop's BIOS 'history' ?

Hi!

I would like to have my BIOS Whitelist removed, and unlocked, so I can access advanecd menus like temperature settings, and integrated graphics. IGFX is very important to me, because I want to run Mac OS X on my G570, and the Radeon HD6370M card is not really compatible with the OS. The CPU is an i5 (2410m) so it has the HD3000 GPU inside.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I rebooted my laptop to take pictures of the bios. I forgot to press F2 to enter bios, so it started loading Windows. I pressed ctrl+alt+del and then F2, and entered BIOS. I could see all the hidden settings!!! WTF? There was an OEMDebug menu, thermal settings and so on! After a reboot it was gone unfortunately. What happened? Can anyone explain?

Sony VAIO Aptio Bios Integrated Peripherals

After re-installing the drivers on my neighbor's VAIO for his Intel Display Audio which stopped working after a screen replacement/repair (showing as "no installed sound output device"), I went into the Aptio bios to check if the integrated audio had simply been turned off, I could find no Integrated Peripherals option under the advanced menu. Does Aptio simply not allow for advanced settings or is there a bios update for this [censored] that enables the Integrated Peripherals menu???
