Hyperthreading was unlocked on an i5 3570k

In case you guys haven't heard about this yet, hyperthreading was unlocked somehow on someone's i5 3570k. The guy pretty much proved it with a live stream. More details can be found at the link below.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1496007/3570k...cked-4c-8t

It sounds like this happened accidentally. The cpu used to register as an i5 3570k with only 4 threads (in cpu-z screenshots), but after installing new ram and multiple resets of the bios, it now has the hyperthreading option in the bios, shows 8 threads in windows, and performs in benchmarks like an i7 3770k.

This pretty much proves that hyperthreading is likely fully functional on the i5 3570k (and probably other i5's) if you can unlock it somehow. There's a guy in that thread (Gamester3333) who's trying to replicate this by modifying the results of the assembly CPUID instruction to report that the cpu supports hyperthreading even when it doesn't. However, he's still working on it. He seems like he knows a lot, but he's admitted he's not a bios guru or anything.

If anyone has any ideas or is able to help, feel free to jump in.

[Request] ASUS 1000 - Enable AHCI mode in BIOS

Hi everybody. I have been looking through many web forums for a way to obtain access to an AHCI mode for my ASUS 1000.

I have already flashed my BIOS to the newest available 1000 BIOS on the ASUS site, and there is no AHCI mode available anywhere (I am 100% sure that I do not have this option available anywhere in my current BIOS). I have read that the chipset which the 1000 uses should support AHCI mode.

I saw that modifications to a BIOS were made, and AHCI mode was enabled in the 1000H model in this thread:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Pr...eePC-1000H
I saw that modifications to a BIOS were made, and AHCI mode was enabled in the 1000HE model in this thread:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-so...-ENABLED-D
I was hoping somebody would have the know how (which I admit I do NOT have) to make this possible on the 1000.

Just purchased a new SSD a few days ago. It's fast now, but I'm sure I'll get better performance with AHCI enabled.

Please let me know what, if anything, you'd need me to post.

Thanks so much in advance! =D

Acer Aspire M5-581T Black screen no BIOS splash

Hi everyone!

So today i flashed a modded bios to my laptop and it worked flawlessly!! I got some cool neat features and I was about to change many more settings than I thought I could. The only thing I was interested for now was changing the video RAM on my laptop.

I changed it from 128MB to I beliebe 1028MB (I believe it was 1028MB) and I also changed something about intergraded graphics option from "Auto" to just "Enabled" I restarted my laptop and when it rebooted, the laptop keyboard lit up, CD drive led flashed like normal, fan was going and hard drive sounded like it was spinning ( not like it was being in use just spinning) but the screen remained black. I turned off my laptop to see if that would fix it but it didn't - no BIOS splash screen just remained black.

I tried to follow the instructions from here: Insyde BIOS Recovery but it didn't seem to work, my laptop's lights turned on and the fan was working but my USB flash drive didn't blink except when I pressed the power button.

Also the most recent BIOS file from Acer only included a .exe to flash within windows which is useless for me because I can't get even get passed the BIOS

I tried using an OLD bios download that acer had that had a DOS folder with an .fd file, tried looking up the name that the file should be renamed but it seems like the name was already the same, and tried to flash via usb but that didn't seem to work.

I have an Acer Aspire M5-581T the most recent BIOS from the Acer website is here the old one with the .fd file that I tried is here

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey guys, I'm new here.
I've had this Presario SR2150NX for a while and have been upgrading it. I bought a cpu and ram off of ebay (E6600, 4Gb ddr2).

Although not on the supported list, the cpu works!
But the ram is capped by the bios at 2gb, which is no better than the 2gb I already have. Sad
I have tried various configurations, and ended up with 4gb being detected as 3gb.
If there was a way to mod the bios to allow more ram or anything else that HP dipshits locked up that would be awesome!

I used the search and found a SLIC-modded bios here:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-HP...o-SR2150NX
I am not too knowledgeable but SLIC means if I install Windows 7 on it, it will be preactivated and say it is HP OEM?

Anyways, if that does not work I found a origional HP v5.14 bios here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...4&sw_lang=

Again if someone could unlock the ram cap and / or any other settings that would be much appreciated!

Hello,

Some time back I decided that it was time for a new router. My old Linksys was doing it's job but there had to be a faster solution for our home network and reading email. Angel

I soon discovered the 802.11AC routers and adapters. I realized that if I bought an AC router that I would have to buy several AC adapters also. I had just bought a DELL E6410 laptop to replace an HP that quit. Well lo and behold, I found an article about installing the Intel 802.11AC adapter in this older computer. Here;
http://www.legitreviews.com/upgrading-an...ard_135084

I bought an ASUS router and ordered the adapter from NewEgg. The install for both was a snap. I upgraded my internet bandwidth and I was smokin'.

I also had an HP Intel processor laptop that I was sure would benefit from the AC protocol. However, I soon read about the dreaded whitelist. I went ahead and orderd another Intel wi-fi adapter and sure enough, the code 304 error message when I tried to install it. After several hours research I found this site and the large cache of modded BIOS files. With a USB prepared for a recovery and a modded BIOS file I flashed the HP....wha-lah, just like it should be and then some. And in goes the Intel AC adapter.

At around the same time, while reading and learning about the mod process for the HP, I installed the latest Intel wi-fi adapter in my ACER Netbook. No problems, no whitelist. When that netbook was new, due to a BIOS limitation you could only use 1gb of memory. With the BIOS upgraded from ACER and now with 2gb of memory and an AC wifi adapter, it was a smoker. So easy............

So now I have the DELL, the HP (with Intel) and the Netbook all using 802.11AC connected to my ASUS dual band router. In the wings is a newly refurbished HP 17-E189NR with an AMD processor. I had orderd and was using a TPLink 802.11AC USB adapter, connected to the USB 3.0 it was quite a speedster. However, I wanted the internal wifi adapter to get away from the dongle.

I had messaged and posted on this forum my interest in a BIOS mod knowing the limitation of modding the EUFI to remove the white list. There were no encouraging replies. There were no AC wifi adapters in the HP parts list for this computer with AMD processor only for Intel. I guessed and decided to try a Broadcom 802.11AC mini wifi card and ordered one for the day that someone cracked the EUFI barrier. That adapter came today. I thought why not try it and see what the error message will be from the non-BIOS.

When the computer went right to the hour-glass/circle of Win8 without an error message and without stopping, I knew that something good was happening.... and it was. Win8 installed the driver software for the Broadcom card, only problem was, it was only bluetooth drivers. I grabbed the TPLink dongle, connected to the web and Windows found the network drivers. Hallelujah !! God is sooooo good to me !!

I have no idea why this worked, but it is what I wanted, 802.11AC on my AMD EUFI laptop.

The Intel HP is a G71-343US with T6600 processor and now with modded F.23 BIOS, SP51527, courtesy of Camilom and help from BDMaster, Sml6397 and donovan6000.

The Intel wi-fi adapter is the 7260HMW available from NewEgg and also from Wal*Mart.

The Broadcom adapter is AzureWave Broadcom BCM94352HMB available from Amazon.

This is longwinded, I'm sure you agree, but you might get something from it that might help you. The only thing that I know for sure is that the modded BIOS in the Intel HP works fine and the AMD HP with EUFI does not whitelist the Broadcom adapter that I used. Maybe since the AMD HP was refurbished it had something to do with it. I doubt that. Maybe I just live right.
