Hello,

I am a proud owner of HP Pavilion dv5-1060ew. The CPU I currently have is Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz. I'd like to upgrade it and I was told that the best CPU I can put in my PC is Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz. I'd like to know if there is a possibility to put even better CPU to my PC's P-type socket. I was wondering about Quad CPU or even Extreme ones - 4 cores are better that 2, especially when I want to do a little game streaming over the Internet.
I need a way to put the best CPU avaible in my P-socket, with high frequency and all this stuff. 4 cores would be nice. I heard that there's something needed to be done with BIOS to allow 4 core CPU work in my PC.

New here and wondering about how to get started with learning to modify a BIOS. I'm not a programmer, is that required knowledge for doing this kind of thing?

I'm just interested and wondering is this something I could realistically do.

Hi,
It seems that I bricked my XPS 15Z.
I started a week ago with flashing the BIOS to the version in this thread page 1, all worked well

Later I found in this forum BIOS versions A12 pre-configured and tested by some people with different settings (volt modding etc...) . I flashed 2 more times, first time went well but the second time didn't go well.

Black screen, high winding fan, CAPS lock light on, .... bricked

No immediate panic as a lot of information can be found here and in other forums, however after trying 2 days several things, I must admit I'm running out of options.

so far I tried following things :

- created a usb stick with mini dos version and a clean BIOS copied on to it. -but it won't boot from that and I believe no USB ports are detected on boot, as the usb stick has lights but none light up.
- created a bootable cd with ISO but it seems it won't boot from that either.

Let's hope it's my mistake but can someone confirm the procedure that I'm using is correct?

- Power off laptop, disconnected the battery
- Unplug laptop
- Press Right Arrow Key and keep it pressed
- Insert Power cable
- release Right Arrow Key

The above just won't power up my machine. So I have a few questions.

- is the "Right Arrow" key the correct button to use on the XPS 15Z or is there another key combination? If so what is the magic combination.
- do I have to try the above procedure with the battery connected or disconnected?
- Is there a difference between US XPS15Z and European?

Any help is welcome.

Hi i am going to buy a new CPU for my Laptop it is a G71-349WM, however it is compatible with the Compaq CQ61/71 BIOS i installed before called: sp51527_NWL_EISTUlk_MoreOptions_ByCamiloml
does this BIOS have a CPU whitelist? if it does then can you remove it? all i want is to be able to use a much more powerful CPU than i already have.

because i was hoping to have access to more settings in the Advanced Tab

I got a brickes Packard Bell Easynote LJ75.
Windows BIOS Update Failed - now it won´t boot anymore.

I need the Crisis Recovery Disc for USB or DVD and the matching BIOS.WPH
(i read somewhere that the WPH file is a bit larger then the original Bios file...)

Hello When I try to mod my bios it states "can not open firmware device file"
any ideas? trying to flash in windows 7 with the winflash tool from the zip.

Hi everyone!
The is already a bios free of a whitelist for this laptop, the version of the bios is 1.16 (8PET34WW). However, after spending 5 days on it I'm still unable to use the proposed update. I write here as I searched this forum and found similar questions in different topics, but none was answered...
When trying to flash the image with WINFLASH.EXE it always fails with "Can not launch the UEFI emulator". The log file contains the line:
"can not open new bios file sec stack", even when I just run it to do a backup. This happens on both Win XP x32 and Win 7 x32 (both booted from LiveCD), and with WINFLASH 1.5.43 as well as with 1.4.xx.
It's not possible to use the WINUTP.EXE because it does not want to update with the same version... Please please please! If anyone knows a workaround, write it here! I think lots of people have the same problem..

Hello all. After 5 years of my HP computer, I have been hoping to overclock it. With a new PSU and Video Card a while back, it's age is really starting to show. HP of course locked the Bios. But since its so old I wont mind if it bricks. But the problem after searching google for hours is I am lost. My MOBO is an Asus M2N68-LA (Narra3). The processor is an AMD Phenom x3 8400. Codename Toliman. The chipset according to CPU-Z is an MCP61, also I see somewhere it's also an NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (although that is not my graphics I use that's a GTX 650.) CPU-Z lists my Bios as Phoenix Technologies, 5.11, 4/15/2008. If anyone know's if this has been modded I will be forever grateful. Dang you HP.
