Hi,

I have a HP DV6900es:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...=c01492246
*Bios: Phoenix
*Version: F58 HP http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39501-40000/sp39862.exe
*CPU:Intel Core Duo T5750

I want to replace the HDD with a Kingston V300 SSD drive (120Gb).

I googled and some web comment suggested to try changing the AHCI mode ... But nothing about that in the F58 Bios.

I don't know if you already have such request and if a Bios change was already done for the Phoenix F58/DV6900es. I´d like unlock de AHCI mode.

Thank you.

[TUTORIAL] Lenovo X230 Tablet BIOS Whitelist Removal (Hardware Flash)

Hi all, this is my first thread and English is not my first language - so please be gentle.

As experienced by all Lenovo Laptop user around the world, our options in hardware upgrades are pretty much limited to Lenovo approved parts only (especially on WLAN/WWAN card) due to embedded "Whitelist FRU" in BIOS. Some BIOS EEPROM software programmer successfully solved the problem by coding the BIOS ROM to bypass whitelist check or change Hardware PID/VID list in the ROM and flash it normally. Unfortunately on recent Lenovo Laptops (X230, X240, T430, etc) such approach no longer works as Lenovo has some protection mechanism to prevent unauthorized BIOS ROM Image from being flashed into their laptops.

But, resistance is futile, Lenovo! We can still do this in hard way...I mean the hardware way Tongue

I attempt to install Intel newest WLAN card, the Half-Size Mini PCI-E Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC7260+Bluetooth 4.0. Lenovo X230 Tablet of course doesn't accept this card, eventhough we get the card from Lenovo approved parts ; since X230T Original BIOS doesn't list Lenovo's Intel AC7260 FRU.

As frustrated Lenovo owner already knew
[Image: 2aaan2b.jpg]
The dreaded part blacklist from Lenovo.

To get it done I have my tools ready:

1. Atten 8586 Solder Station (PID Controlled Solder Iron & Hot Air)
2. Multicore Ersin 0.46mm Leaded Solder Wire (Sn62/Pb36/Ag2)
3. MG Chemicals RA Type Rosin Flux (ROMI Class) in Bonkote SMD flux brush
4. Multicore Loctite 3.5mm and 0.8mm solder wick
5. Isopropyl Alcohol
6. Kimwipes Science lint free tissue
7. SMD antistatic tweezer, antistatic brush, LED third hand holder, etc.

The Tool Setup

8. Minipro TL866CS USB Universal EEPROM Programmer ~ I get it new @ USD 39 from some Chinese supplier.
9. SOIC/SOP 8 to DIP adapter.

Cheap Chinese Minipro TL866CS EEPROM Programmer

First of all, I need to have a modded BIOS ROM Image from someone (as I don't have any expertise on that) to bypass the whitelist check. I got my ROM from one of famous guru here (sovem). I sent him 2 ROM backup images from my current 2.57 BIOS (using Universal BIOS Backup and FPT Backup). These 2 images have different size, 12MB and 7MB. I don't know exactly which one he need so I sent both of them anyway. And regardless of how new I am here on the forum, he replied me with 4MB modded BIOS ready to be flashed the day after (thanks man!).

I decided to buy a new blank chip at first to be flashed into so I can keep my original BIOS chip untouched for recovery in catastrophic event. From other guide laying out in the internet, we can recognize our BIOS chip using FPT Backup Tools (which I found out to be unreliable later on).

The FPT Backup tools read 2 of my EEPROM (Main BIOS and Embedded controller BIOS) as Macronix MX25L3205D and Macronix MX25L6405D. The one need to be flashed is the Main BIOS, so I bought 3 MX25L3205D chips (@ USD 0.5 each) from China.

I disassemble my laptop using Lenovo Hardware Maintenance PDF manual as guide (which can be found in Lenovo Support Page). The board was covered in black sticky cover tape, so it's kinda difficult to locate my BIOS chip. But I got lucky from the first tape tear anyway. Both of these BIOS chips is located near the Express Card slot as shown in the picture.

But after I look more closely to it, I realized that I got the wrong blank chip. I bought MX25L3205D but the chip on the board was MX25L3206E. So I lookup into Macronix document and found out that the one on Lenovo board is a new one as the one I bought (which the FPT Backup Tool read) is being discontinued. Though both chips mainly share the same command sets, but the older one support dual I/O command, ACC write protection pin, and so on - so it's not cross compatible (trust me, I tried and it is NOT compatible). Even Macronix have special migration document about it.

Closer look on Lenovo X230 Tablet BIOS Chip

Side to side: the older MX25L3205D vs MX25L3206E

So why the FPT Backup Tool read the wrong chip number?
Answer: Macronix use the same shared device ID for both chips along with some of their similar MX25L32xx chips. MX25L3205D being the older one is the one that FPT Backup Tool read.

I don't want to waste any more time, so I decide to bite the bullet and flash the modded ROM Image into my existing BIOS chip anyway.

1. I tape some Kapton around the BIOS chip. I did this not to protect the surrounding component from heat (as Kapton tape despite of being heat resistant and dielectric, it's not a thermal insulator), but to prevent the tiny 0402 SMD component from being blown by hot air blow whilst their tin is melting.
2. I set the hot air @ 250 deg C and raise to 320 deg C at 5-10cm distance alternately on each chip legs. While doing it I pull the chip lightly using bent SMD tweezer, and the chip came off.

Blowing hot air to the chip

3. I clean the board from the old-lousy-hard to melt lead-free leftover tin using fluxed solder wick and soldering iron.

Cleaning the lead-free solder tin from the board

BIOS Chip removed

4. I solder the chip to 8-pin SOIC/SOP to DIP adapter for direct mounting on the programmer. SOIC to DIP cable clamp proven to be unreliable. I use it at first and always result in flashing failures (even the seller warn about it before purchase).

5. I install my new Minipro TL866CS into second PC. It's easy, fast, and straightforward. Then I put my chip into the programmer and run the program.

6. First, I select the correct chip from the list.

EEPROM Chip selection

7. I open the modded ROM file from 'sovem'. (Again, thanks man!)

Open the modded ROM

8. I select Device>Program with 'Erase before' option chosen.

Programming successful

9. I flux the pad using my favourite aggressive ROMI class rosin flux for fast easy soldering using Bonkote brush

Board pad preparation

10. I set my soldering iron @ 240 deg C to solder the modded chip using my favourite leaded silver enriched solder wire. If lead-free solder wire used, temperature must probably be set at least 40-50 deg C higher to get a good enough flow and result.

Soldering the chip

11. I clean the flux using isopropanol, antistatic brush, and lint free tissue.

Cleaning the board

12. BIOS chip soldered back. I always love how easy to work with leaded solder wire and how reliable and shiny the result finish is compared to the dull lead-free one. (darn you environmentalist!)

Apparently the job isn't finished here. Intel utilize some Bluetooth switch on 7260AC+BT mini PCI-E #51 pin. I tried it on 2 PC and Bluetooth is not even showing on device manager. I read that if the board supply 3.3V on that pin, Bluetooth is off and vice versa. So I taped a tiny Kapton tape on pin #51 as shown.

Intel Dual Band 7260AC + BT 4.0 with pin #51 taped to enable Bluetooth

So I assemble my laptop with the card and the laptop turns on with 5 beeps-pause-5 beeps and finally goes to POST (phew...I thought it was dead). I went into BIOS after I learn (read) that Lenovo utilize some security measure called TPM Chip which has to be disabled to prevent the beeps goes off everytime it boots. I don't know exactly what the TPM feature is for, but apparently it's causing delayed POST and beeps when modified BIOS ROM was used.

13. Disable the TPM on the BIOS under Security tab.

Security chip disabled

We can also see how the TPM is disabled under device manager after running these commands under CMD (as administrator)
-"set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1"
-"start devmgmt.msc"
Device Manager will show, enable "show hidden devices" and look up to greyed out TPM device.

TPM disabled on device manager

14. Complete!

Whooping 866.7 Mbps reward (paired with ASUS RT-AC68 Router) and Bluetooth 4.0 enabled.

My special thanks to sovem (bios-mods guru). This thread is dedicated to you as my appreciation to your work and kindness to a newbie one like me. Big Grin

Asus Commando - ucodes

$

0
Hi! If you can help me, it would be great! Sorry for extremely long post, but I wanted to describe my problem with details. (my main question is almost in the end of this post, sorry for this spam ) Smile (Something is telling me, this is a wrong forum-group , please move the post if is it.)

I have a problem with my Asus Commando BIOS. I have three Xeons

XEON E5140 - Conroe 2.33
XEON E5310 - Quad core 1.6 GHz
XEON E5205 - Wolfdale 1.86 GHz

After done L5/M5 mod, my xeons were able to POST on Commando, but there's an announcement, that if I want my processor to spread it's wings, I need to update my BIOS. It

means of course, that there's no uCodes or those not exist inside a BIOS memory.

I have read some threads on IT forums and I was able to put a microcode file in my bios... but there is a problem. I will explain this.

This is a original Asus Commando 1901 lastest BIOS opened in a MMTOOL V3.22 BKMOD:

(BTW. LINK to asus site, I used this file)

I removed these codes from original Commando bios:

(NO - CPU ID - Update Revision - Platform Type)

03 - 06F6-CB-01
04 - 06F7-68-10
05 - 06FB-B6-01
06 - 06FB-B6-10
22 - 0676-0C-01
23 - 0676-0C-10
25 - 067A-07-11

And added the same CPU ID microcodes, but with newer Update Revision (2010 yr.). This gave me nothing. I also noticed, that uCodes order does not have to be kept. So

there's a list of ADDED uCodes:

06F6-D0-01
06F7-6A-10
06FB-BA-01
06FB-BA-10
0676-0F-01
0676-0F-10
067A-0F-11

(BTW. Last three should be named eg. 1067A, as far as I know)

Still, after flash bios this all above gave me nothing. Bios were telling me, that I have to update uCodes.

OK, what I done next:
1. downloaded an ASUS Z7S WS BIOS.
2.Opened it using MMTOOL and I noticed another Platform Types (04/40).
3.I also checked in CPU options in Commando's BIOS a small window "cpu uCode", it was 0676 (for Wolfdale core XEON E5205)
4.I added a 0676-0F-04 uCode - BINGO! It is working.

(BTW. I made also a "40" platform type bios, and after flashing i can say - platform type "40" doesn't work with this processor. Only 04 is good.)

OK, Everything is fine, but if I want to add more 04 platform uCodes there's an ERROR: "Rom space isn't enough. It exceeded E0h Bytes".

So there's THE QUESTION:
What am I supposed to do?
a. to buy a bigger flash IC (16Mbit??) and then trying to make a BIOS file with all possible INTEL's uCodes, then flash this using weird commands in AFUDOS tool .....
b. maybe change some bios adress/move some data to get some free space, then add uCodes
c. to remove some P4 uCodes, and receive some free space this way
d. or maybe somebody can do this BIOS modifications for me?
e. or maybe is there a better/easier way to add those uCodes?

I want to say I'm overclocker and my Asus Commando is for me my dearHeart. I have lots of hi-end motherboards, but this-one is something more... Tongue (BTW If anyone would be interested in my achievements in overclocking, you can go on hwbot.org site and search my nick. I made lots of good scores using Asus Commando, one of the best 775

motherboards ever(blah blah...)) Big Grin

Please, help me Smile

Hi guys, I had got a new Sony VAIO Duo 13 [SVD1322V9CB] with the following specs:
Intel Core i7 4650U

Is there anyone can make advanced menu to be accessed?
After I disabled the secureboot, the USB disk with Ubuntu cann't accessed.
It seems that many old tools I found cann't open the new BIOS.

I had upload the BIOS file here:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=E5...1A20%21672

the rom file is extracted from temp folder when the exe runs.Smile

Thank you so much.

Hello,
I have the HP 6z-1100 CTO (running InsydeH20 F.15 direct from HP Support) and I have no advanced menu. I have already tried (several times) the "press 'a' during bios startup" trick and tried looking for a jumper on the inside to allow access to the correct pins (both events turned up unsuccessful). I don't know how to mod the BIOS and I was hoping that one of you could do it for me. Sorry if I missed out any important information and thanks in advance.

Hi! I'm completely new to this forum and to the bios modding thing Smile anyway I got myself a 8120 for my GA-870A-USB3, it was in the CPU support list, didn't think much about it, and when I got it I realised it only supported the 95w not the 125w... (however it does support 125w x6 Phenom II and two other 125w Bulldozer CPUs so I guess it should work) soo now I wonder if someone could add this support for my board.

Lets see if I got this right Tongue
MB: Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3 Rev.3.1 (Motherboard ID 04/30/2012-RX870-SB850-7A66CG0FC-00)

This book is a bit older, but I wanna check what I can do with it.

I just tried to see if this bios has any hiddden options:
http://dl.msi.com/download_files/nb/bos_...19_122.zip

However amibcp doesn't seem to recognize the image. I guess MSI is using their own image format and flasher there?

Anyone else able to acces this?

How about getting a bios dump from the machine? I just got trouble finding the info on how to do a dump.

The Bios already displays some extended options ith alt+insert. I get to chipset settings that way, but it only has thermal settings, memory remap, and some pci options.

I'd like to see some clocking options.

thanks for the help

hi i just buy this product. the turbo boost cpu does not work. the cpu working on a 3.3 ghz max at full power , it should reach at least 3.8 ghz.
then impossible to overclock mode . I also installed a liquid cooling esternente h100i thinking it was a problem of temperature and tested on a 850w power supply but all in vain . to understand what the cpu does not hold an optimum voltage , and therefore does not handle it the original turbo boost overclocking mode . I think it is ub problem of limited bios and settings that you have. yet the motherboard and ' able to handle 4.4 ghz safely . a certain site motormice changed the bios and that worked more quietly at that frequency . what I ask and try to make a aggiornento just to increase this functionality since the sx79r5 and ' a great product and I think that if there was this I implement your sales will increase numerolmente since you are the only ones to produce a itx MB with socket 2011 . I hope so in your response and I hope you will solve this problem soon.

Acer TravelMate 5744 Insyde Bios Problem

Hi! I have an Acer Travelmate 5744 (Motherboard model: BIC50)
Actually yesterday I opened its bios and under the security tab, I activated some supervisor password, but the problem is that I forgot the password.
Now the result is that, the laptop turns on and Windows boots up. I can do anything in Windows but when I try to open the BIOS SETUP during startup, it asks for password. When I try to enter the wrong password then it displays "SYSTEM HALTED" message and screen becomes blank and laptop freezes.

I tried everything. I tried Clearing CMOS, flash the new bios in windows and dos mode. But it is still locked. I read about SPIPG Flash Programmer here:

http://write-code.blogspot.in/2012/08/pa...yMr8iU9Jdg

I did everything as described and now i can erase my bios ic by connecting it to my PC throught LPT Port, but now i need to write new bios on erased bios ic. The problem is that, Acer provides bios file "BA52V107.fd" which is in .fd file extension. I need to convert this file to .bin extension so that i can write it. Please tell me how to convert it?

Hello,
I know that i possibly bump an old request, but the links in the thread have expired long ago, so your help will be appreciated.
I have Asus P5KPL-AM board with ICH7 enabled, and I'm using windows 8.1.
It's identifier is 27c0. However, There's an option to run a RAID array with it. The Asus support site also states that it is possible to work with AHCI in this motherboard model (despite the fact it's not enabled in the BIOS) so I think it's ICH7R.

Is it possible to get bios ROM with AHCI enabled?
Thank you.

Bricked my Acer Aspire - plesae help!

Hi all,

Firstly, my apologies if this is posted in the wrong section (or website for that matter!) but I'm kind of desperate to get this thing going again. So I ran a BIOS upgrade exe fgrom within Windows, it rebooted and basically did nothing. Now it doesn't POST.

I extract the BIOS .exe which reveals the following files:

Ding.wav
FlsHook.exe
FlsHookDll.dll
FWUpdLcl.exe
InsydeFlash.exe
iscflash.dll
iscflash.sys
iscflashx64.sys
xerces-c_2_7.dll

I then opened the original .exe with PhoenixTool.exe and the first window that popped up showed:

http: //i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo1/Birtybasset/1.jpg

Followed by:

http: //i356.photobucket.com/albums/oo1/Birtybasset/2.jpg

It created a DUMP folder and inside it 797 .ROM files and a folder called BIOS which contained 256 .BIOS files.

At this point I'm a little bit stuck!! I understand that I ultimately need either BIN or FD file to place on the root of a USB drive and then boot whilst holding down FN + ESC.

Massive thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with this.
