Hard drive locked

I didn't know which forum to post this in so I tried here. I gave someone a laptop and someone else put passwords everywhere. I got rid of the bios passwords, and can remove the Windows password when I get to that point, but the HDD still has one. I read the bios searches for the HDD password. Can the request from bios to search for the password be removed? I plan to do this so she can keep her files, then reflash with stock so the option to password will still be there.
